Outdoor Activities: Kayaking

Outdoor activities are some of the most popular things to do, especially when the warm weather rolls around and the sun is shining brightly. One of the most popular outdoor activities near a waterway is kayaking. Kayaking has become so popular that you can’t go to the Jersey Shore, a lake, a river, or the West Coast without seeing hundreds of people enjoying the water in their Kayak. Kayaking can be done by yourself or in twos with a tandem Kayak.

Kayaking is a great cardio exercise because you have to row, or paddle, to get the watercraft moving over the waves or against the current. If you perform this activity on a daily basis you might find yourself losing a little bit of weight and gaining some very nice muscles in the upper body. All of the rowing gets the blood flowing and really makes the heart muscle work extra hard. So, if you are looking for a new way to exercise that isn’t boring, try kayaking.

Since you will be out on the water, even if it is a calm lake, you should always wear a life jacket to protect yourself from drowning. Drowning might not be as common in a lake as it can be in a river or the ocean but life jackets should always be worn when kayaking. It is just common sense to do so. Life jackets will help the kayaker stay afloat should their watercraft capsize and knock them out into the water. Always wear a life jacket; its the matter of life or death.
